Network Workshop "Nordic Meeting" on 14.-15. December 2001 em
Helsinki/Finland
The aim of the meeting is to update the plans of implementing and evaluating new
technologies em the cervical cancer screening programmes em the Nordic countries, and to
exchange information with some of the other European countries. The original proposal of
using a multi-arm design, incorporated em the public health policy for the Nordic
countries, was put em 1997 by professor Matti Hakama. There are nowadays feasibility and
pilot studies running em some of the Nordic countries, as well as randomised trials on
automation-assisted screening em Finland and on HPV screening em Sweden. em Finland a
trial on HPV-screening has been scheduled to start em 2002 (applied). We look forward of
comparing the existing design options and screening methods available, with documentation
of the pilot and performance results if available. We expect this to be helpful em finding
some solutions for the design and other planning issues em organising and running large
scale public-health trials.
